After Digital is delighted to be working with Festivals Edinburgh on an innovative new prototype and digital project, which aims to further improve the accessibility of the city’s festivals.

Festivals Edinburgh is a strategic umbrella organisation working on behalf of Edinburgh’s 12 major festivals, which is focused on over-arching areas of mutual interest. Its sole focus is to maintain the Festivals’ and the Festival City’s global competitive edge, via major collaborative projects and strategic initiatives.

As part of its innovation activities, last year Festivals Edinburgh conducted the 'Edinburgh Festivals Idea Challenge' in the aim of gaining some feedback from the public on events throughout the festivals and where they can be improved. Only one idea won both the public and the judges' vote which was related to accessibility. The idea in particular was to provide better information about what shows and events were best suited to people with accessibility requirements.

After Digital was selected to develop an innovative digital solution that unites the festivals’ existing database of venue access information, allows for venues to update data in real-time, and simultaneously integrates user-generated content and feedback. The resulting app will act as a rich database of interactive information, will be built responsively with multi-device browsing capability, meaning that it will provide an optimum and tailored user experience across mobiles and tablets as well as desktop computers.

The aim of this project is to create a system that is so effective and robust that it has the potential to be rolled out across the arts sector to provide a useful and informative tool. With long-term, as well as short-term, objectives in mind for this project, After Digital will continue to work with Festivals Edinburgh to incorporate stakeholder feedback and further refine this project to create the best digital solution possible.

David Johnstone, Managing Director, said; "This project really brings to the fore our expertise across the arts, culture and attractions sector as well as our reputation for promoting accessibility throughout all our work. We can't wait to get this prototype up and running and see what innovative solutions we can bring to the board.

"Edinburgh Festivals Innovation Lab do inspirational work to improve and better promote Edinburgh's range of festivals and we're excited to have been chosen to be part of that."
