Another year, another highly anticipated Icon Awards, an event that now firmly sits in the business calendar. Returning for its third year, the Icon Awards reward and celebrate both businesses and individuals who encourage and champion diversity in all forms across Scotland. Boasting a judging panel that pride themselves on their personal celebration of diversity and inclusivity, this year is set to impress.
Having worked with the Icon Awards to establish their first ever event and support their digital efforts over the past two years, the organisation underwent some major changes last year - now being run by The Big Impact charity and supported in full by media partner the Herald. Whilst we no longer look after their digital, we continue to shout out about all the amazing work the team behind the awards are doing across Scotland and beyond.
Which is why it’s with great honour, that we can announce that both After Digital as a company and several of our employees have been nominated for awards in this year’s categories.
Going up against the best that Glasgow has to offer, After Digital has been nominated by the public for the coveted ‘Employer of the Year (under 200 employees)’ award, an award that saw fierce competition last year, from the selection of highly regarded international and local companies. As an organisation we have always maintained an equal opportunities standpoint, whilst embracing the LGBTQ community and actively supporting it. We firmly believe that it is our diversity that makes our team so strong.
Which leads us on nicely to our next nomination; our Managing Director, David Johnstone, who has been nominated for the highly acclaimed ‘Business Person of the Year’ award. The award recognises David’s 13+ years of commitment to the company, the last 2 of which have been in the position of Managing Director, during which he has seen us achieve our highest ever turnover, expand into new international markets such as North America and develop several exciting new products. This award is another incredible gesture towards both our company and the individuals we employ.
“As huge advocates of the Icon Awards and all they stand for it's an absolute privilege to have received both the company and personal nominations. They are all evidence of an incredibly passionate, dynamic and committed team, who always strive to create a welcoming and vibrant company environment.”
- David Johnstone, Managing Director
In our third nomination, our Head of Strategy, Cat Leaver, has been nominated in the category of ‘Straight Ally of the Year’ (a title previously held by the very fabulous Michelle VIsage). Cat has always shown her dedication to significant and diverse causes both in and outside the workplace; with a commitment to celebrate individuality and diversity in her professional and personal life. This is reflected in her extracurricular activity in which she is one of the team who run TEDxGlasgow (who, it so happens, are also up for an Icon Award for ‘Event of the Year’) and as Ambassador for PPWH.
With these incredible nominations, we are both honoured and excited to join others in promoting diversity and encouraging greater diversity throughout Scotland. Good luck to everyone involved, it's a truly exciting cause for celebration and we can’t wait to get the gladrags out for this one again!
