It’s time to say hello to a new member of the AD team! James joined our web development department a few weeks ago and we’re happy to have him on board. As always, you’re not truly a member of the team until you’ve completed your introductory blog, so we’ll pass it along to James…

What attracted you to After Digital?

The clients. I am a lover of both the arts and museums, so the fact that After Digital works mostly in that sector was quite exciting. Also, the people here didn’t seem too awful. And I was correct… They’re not!

Tell us a bit about what you did before joining After Digital.

I was a front-end developer for a company that built an app builder aimed at the hospitality industry. I worked on the app and the content management system that built the app. The people there weren’t awful either.

What do you bring to the team?

Height; vertically challenged is not a term that can be used to describe me. I also have a dinosaur jumper. Two things that are vital for the success of any team.

But, on a more serious note, I have over 4 years professional experience as a developer and I have been building things for the web for over 16 years ( I taught myself HTML, CSS and Javascript at 14). I am a quick study and have a track record for learning new technologies and working them well.

And a dinosaur jumper, did I mention the dinosaur jumper?

What do you do in your spare time?

I draw, I paint, I play the ukulele and I also like to see as much live music as my bank balance allows.

If you could only watch one TV show/film for the rest of your life what would it be?

Empire Strikes Back – it’s the best Star Wars movie, ipso facto the best movie.

You’re stranded on an island, what are the three things you would take with you?

Easy, I’d take three Bear Gryllses. The first Bear Grylls can collect food and gather water, the second will build shelter and the final will cook. Meanwhile, I can relax, enjoy the sunshine and make friends with the local wildlife. Many years will pass and we would have created an entire civilisation on the island with the island’s animals. I will undoubtedly have became their king. The island would thrive. Another couple of years would pass and I’m down a Bear Grylls, things become unstable. There’s a revolt. The turtles will rise up against me over a coconut shortage and I’m driven off of the island. I have the remaining two Bear Gryllses build me a boat and I return home with only my crown and my majestic island beard as a reminder.

What is the most interesting thing that’s ever happened to you?

See previous… Nah, joking. Nothing that exciting. I won £2500 in an online poker tournament that cost £2 to enter. There were around 50,000 people playing and I knocked out 2 professionals in the process. I had a few other large wins but that was my best.

Which celeb would play you in a movie?

It would have to be James Woods. People often misspell my name as James Woods, however, it is just James Wood. I like the idea of a James Wood movie starring James Woods as James Wood. Think about all the chaos and confusion that would cause! Maybe then I could play James Woods in a film about him for some double trouble?

What’s your favourite quote?

“There is no Dana only Zuul!” – Dana Barratt/Zuul the Gatekeeper of Gozer (Ghostbusters).

Welcome to the team James, at least we finally know someone who can get his hands on a Bear Grylls when we need one. We’re looking forward to seeing more of what James can do, keep an eye out for his work in future case studies!
