Common Purpose is an independent, international leadership development organisation giving people from the private, public and not-for-profit sectors the inspiration, skills and connections to become better leaders at work and in society. Last month our Operations Director, Deborah Raffan, was one of a select group to be invited to join an exciting new Common Purpose course focusing on operational processes.
This unique course aims to develop the ability of participants to work together, innovate and to thrive in different cultures, in order to help people, organisations, cities and regions to succeed and prosper.
Key outcomes of the course include:
- Become better - and significantly faster - at breaking down silos and crossing cultures.By bringing together an incredible diversity of leaders from different sectors, cultures and backgrounds.
- Operate effectively outside your comfort zone. Experiential work takes place in prisons, trading floors, schools, hospitals, production plants and much more.
- Deliver complex change. Inspiration is taken from real-life leadership issues and insights.
I spoke to Debs about her experience so far and heard what she had to say; “As a participant, I was immediately struck by how quickly the Common Purpose team had us discussing the big issues in a comprehensive manner. The speakers have all previously been in my position, and were keen to set us at ease and then challenge our ideas and perceptions of leadership, power and our ability as both an individual and as part of a greater collective to have an impact on much bigger issues. They were so generous with their time and opinions that I could not fail to be inspired by some of their successes!
“The format of the days are fast paced, yet engaging and enjoyable. They act as a catalyst for questioning my own role in the course and how I can advance my own appreciation and skill set, whilst also helping my fellow participants to achieve their goals and ambitions.
“I am very lucky to find myself in a room with a group of individuals who are all keen to improve their understanding and appreciation of deep-rooted societal issues and make connections that will help us work more closely together to ‘dream big’ and achieve even greater success! Our course participants come from all walks of life, various sectors, and from small local enterprises to large, corporate international organisations. This gives a unique set of opinions and perspectives of the issues at hand and makes for a very enjoyable exchange of ideas.”
As well as growing her professional network, we’re looking forward to seeing how Debs transfers this experience into our office environment to support the continued growth of the agency via more effective and innovative business processes.
