A few weeks ago, Stef joined our team as our latest designer. You may have noticed the 'olá' in the title, Stef hails from Brazil but has been in the UK for the last 8 years. We're thrilled to have her on board and, as is tradition, she had to complete our obligatory new start blog. Find out a little more about her by reading on!
What attracted you to After Digital?
I’ve been keeping an eye on After Digital’s work for a few years, the expertise in the arts and culture field was a big plus for me, as I’m definitely a museum rat. I was also very drawn by the varied awards After Digital had won, because who doesn’t like winning?
Tell us a bit about what you did before joining After Digital.
Before joining the AD team I worked briefly as a freelancer for Freytag Anderson, helping them create top-notch animations for their clients. The bulk of my experience, however, was spent as a User Experience and Interface Designer for a variety of companies, most notably WikiHouse Foundation.
WikiHouse is a massively ambitious project that aims to provide, not only an open-source building system, (think lego but for houses) but also to deliver the digital infrastructure behind digital manufacturing and building processes. This required me to wear many hats from designer to public speaker.
What do you bring to the team?
I’ve been in the creative field for almost a decade now, having come from an architectural background before moving into design, so I’ve seen all sorts of crazy stuff. I’m a Central Saint Martins alumni so I definitely like to push boundaries when it comes to design. I also grew up on the internet; not a whole lot of a people had internet back in 1994! We forget how far we’ve come and can take things for granted. So in short, hopefully, I can bring some perspective and a bit of something unexpected.
What do you do in your spare time?
I walk my giant dogs, or do they really walk me? Who knows… I escape to nature every chance I get. I love being close to the water and my dogs love swimming. I also collect an unhealthy amount of books and like to take some pictures on my old Hasselblad (medium format film camera).
If you could only watch one TV show/film for the rest of your life what would it be?
Probably the Lord of The Rings movies, I have to watch all of the extended cuts every Christmas, it’s tradition.
A genie grants you three wishes, what would you ask for? (You can’t say more wishes!)
- A house in the beautiful Scottish wilderness that is also magically only 30 mins away from work.
- More giant dogs!
- That my house has a massive library like the one in the Beauty and the Beast where I can slide around singing songs on the book ladders.
Do you have any weird party tricks?
I’ve taught my giant dogs how to high five SUPER GENTLY and I can probably name any Pokemon just by their silhouette.
Which celeb would play you in a movie?
I’m freakishly tall for Brazilian standards (that’s where I’m from!), I got called a Viking a lot growing up, so I’m gonna go with Gwendoline Christie, AKA Brienne of Tarth from Game of Thrones.
What's your favourite quote?
"There is a curse. They say: May you live in interesting times." - Terry Pratchett
We can't wait to see what exciting Stef does with us at After Digital, welcome to the team!
