Having opened back in 2001, the Glasgow Science Centre (GSC) is a five-star visitor attraction on the south bank of Glasgow’s River Clyde. Comprising three floors packed with interactive science exhibits that present a blend of science and technology, the centre aims to inspire and engage visitors and regularly hosts innovative events. Following a competitive tender back in 2012, we were appointed as their trusted digital partner in order to launch their new digital strategy and web presence.

Building a global attraction
Glasgow Science Centre wanted a digital presence that better reflected the prestige of the venue, whilst encouraging an active and engaged online community pre, post and during visits. They needed to improve online accessibility, raise the brand profile, enhance search marketing performance, integrate social channels and, ultimately, sell tickets.
Delving below the surface
Our team conducted thorough digital marketing research into the GSC’s competitive environment and current site performance, this established current positioning and opportunities for growth.
The wireframing process explored how to create more intuitive search, facilitate key user journeys and integrate with their online booking system (at the time this was TOR).

Making it personal
We worked with GSC to develop a bespoke 'My Itinerary' function, encouraging user engagement and sharing of content beyond the website itself. This was fully integrated with social channels, to boost interactions.
In year one, the new site increased site visits by over 10%, which translated into an estimated £50,000 in additional revenue. The site engages GSC’s audiences (around 50,000 visits per month, with 20% viewing more than 5 pages), and encourages pre and post-visit interaction and sustained learning. The design and content reflect the quality of the Centre’s exciting exhibitions, enhances the profile of GSC’s partnerships, fosters interactions with schools and explains the charitable purpose of the Science Centre. Additionally, the site offers increased capacity to book tickets online, supplementing other sales channels and enhancing the ease with which visitors can plan and organise a visit.
Over the years, we've continued to work with Glasgow Science Centre, to integrate new third-party systems and evolve the site to meet the company's unique requirements. We're happy to maintain a strong working relationship.
