Established in 1858, The Hallé is an internationally acclaimed orchestra based in Manchester. Resident at the stunning Bridgewater Hall since 1996, the organisation boasts its own record label and also supports a choir, youth and children's choir, and youth orchestra. With an aspiration to always provide artistic leadership, The Hallé needed a website, which supported them in evolving to their organisational needs, whilst offering users worldwide the most satisfying and seamless experience possible.

With a vision to promote the study, practice and increased knowledge of music worldwide, the orchestra needed a responsive, scalable website that allowed them to make a distinctive contribution to Manchester and further afield. The website needed to combine creativity and practicality, crafting an enjoyable user experience with the ability to easily purchase merchandise via the online shop, browse productions and purchase tickets via the Tessitura ticketing system.

Working with The Hallé team, we explored user personas, created user stories and mapped out numerous user journeys all before moving into any formal wireframing. The purpose, to ensure the new website was as intuitive and user-centric as possible, whilst offering the team scope to fully expose their incredible work.
The new website needed to simplify the ticketing process, presenting clear calendar listings and shorter booking and purchase paths. Built on the admin-friendly and scalable CMS WordPress, the website also integrates with Shopify ecommerce to allow for the simple online sale and management of merchandise, including CDs and downloads. Ticketing was integrated with their resident venue Bridgewater Hall for phase one, with future developments due in 2017 once the new online box office system has been procured.
What's more key social channels have been embedded into the homepage, with clear CTAs throughout the website, to generate increased engagement across all digital channels, whilst exposing their most up-to-date content. The website also integrates with WordFly, allowing for the effective management of email campaigns and newsletter registrations.
We're excited to be continuing this partnership, with new features and functionality to be added to the website in the next phase of work. The full Tessitura integration will allow for effective customer relationship management as well as the delivery of market-leading online ticketing and seat selection.
The website has driven increased visitation (by almost 20%) and engagement across the board. The fully responsive templates make browsing across devices a delight, evidenced by a marked increase of monthly mobile users (18% uplift) and table users (24% growth).
