Launched this year in Scotland, the prestigious Icon Awards celebrates the thriving LGBTI community across Scotland - the first of it’s type in the country. As society becomes increasingly diverse, The Icon Awards aims to continue breaking down barriers and recognising the achievements of everyone in the community from local champions through to celebrity ambassadors and we’re very excited to be supporting them on their way.

Over the years we’ve built up a number of incredible partnerships where we aim to support the ongoing growth and prosperity of local organisations and start-ups. We’ve helped to establish the Coder Dojo youth coding programmes across Scotland (even running the first ever one from Scottish Parliament), provided critical support to TEDxGlasgow (including loaning out our Cat Leaver to head up their comms) and crafted digital strategies and websites for charities and NPOs (such as Kieran Maxwell Fund and Woodlands Community Trust).

We like to think we’re pretty forward-thinking and proactive, and one thing we are hugely passionate about is diversity and equality in the workplace (which sadly still lags way behind where it should be in our industry and elsewhere). In fact, our Relationships & Partnerships Director, Stirland Martin has extensive experience on the critical topic of diversity having previously co-founded a LGBT Wedding Company and being UK Ambassador for IGLTA (where he coordinated key events at Pride Amsterdam amongst other activities). So when Paramount Creative came to us asking us to be their official digital partner in order to launch Scotland’s inaugural LGBTI awards ‘The Icon Awards’, we were delighted to oblige.

“After Digital is the perfect fit, and was our first choice to come on board and help us build The Icon Awards. Their passion and drive will help us build something truly special, not only here in Scotland but across the UK. Not only do we want to recognise those most deserving, but we plan to create an event the community will be proud of - watch this space. We’ve already found After Digital’s support priceless - we love you guys!”

Key Challenges

  • Tight deadlines and turnaround times
  • New brand with no former online traction or awareness
  • Building Icon Awards profile amongst key ambassadors and a fully diverse network

Initial meetings explored Paramount’s mission for The Icon Awards and how we could build anticipation around this exciting new event. Taking a new brand designed primarily for print, we adapted this for the web and created a count-down holding page that provided a teaser of information about the big event, key contact and social links and a count-down until the full website would launch and voting for the 16 categories opened.

With huge synergy between our inclusive company culture and The Icon Awards’ grand vision, our relationship has blossomed into more than a digital partnership (where we’ve delivered their campaign page, website, social media support, strategic digital consultancy and ongoing web support) and The Icon Awards have called on our wider diversity experience, inviting us onto the independent judging committee and as diversity advisors moving forward.

Design and Development

The Icon Awards aspired to fill a gap expressed by the community, offering a high-class, luxurious event that celebrates everyone deservant from your every-day individual to aspirational celebrity ambassadors. As such, their brand and our web design focused on emulating this class and elegance, with Oscars-esque qualities and opulent gold and black brand imagery.

Developed in WordPress the site provides maximum control to the team at The Icon Awards, ensuing they have the flexibility to update users with all the latest content and news - which includes the announcement that the spectacular Michelle Visage will be making her Scottish debut with us in October at the Icon ceremony (and will be doing a guest blog with us on diversity whilst she’s here) - and mould the website to their ever-evolving needs.

Ongoing Relationship

The full responsive website was unveiled and launched on the 9th of July at the lavish launch party held at (fellow Icon partner) Light Club, Glasgow. Our team went along to enjoy the wonderful entertainment and support the Icon team on the night. With an incredible list of diversity ambassadors and businesses making their big entrance at the Awards, we are beyond excited for the exclusive, star-studded ceremony at the gorgeous Crowne Plaza on the 9th of October.

Joining forces with The Icon Awards team, our Senior Digital Designer, Stephen Kay, has been selected to join the judging committee and After Digital invited to select the winner of the coveted ‘Best Marketing Campaign of the Year’ Award.

  • Support with networking and profiling Icon Awards to key ambassadors and contacts
  • Digital strategy consultancy over the 2015-2016 period
  • Support the growth of the Icon Awards into new markets
  • Use our expert industry knowledge for judging on the 'Best Marketing Campaign' category

“We were honoured that Paramount Creative selected us for this partnership and to launch such an important new initiative. The whole team have been very excited about working on this project and have thoroughly enjoyed collaborating with the Icon team, bringing their own unique diversity experiences to the fore. We look forward to continuing to support The Icon Awards for the next two years and hopefully beyond.”
